Natural Dyeing with Logwood

  • Forager Crafts 2915 Knox Avenue Los Angeles, CA, 90039 United States (map)

Discover the magic of natural dyeing in this hands-on workshop, where we’ll explore the rich, vibrant purples of logwood—a centuries-old dye material with incredible depth and beauty. Whether you're new to natural dyeing or looking to expand your skills, this class is a fantastic introduction to working with plant-based color.

During this workshop, you’ll learn:

🧺 How to properly prep fibers for dyeing including protein (silk, wool) and plant-based (cotton, linen) fibers
🌊 How to prepare a logwood dye vat for maximum color extraction
🎨 The art of natural dyeing—experimenting with shade variations, modifiers, and techniques

You’ll also create sample swatches to explore different tones and techniques, then dye two beautiful, functional pieces to take home:
✨ A hand-dyed silk scarf in a rich, vivid purple
🛍 A dyed cotton net bag—perfect for springtime farmers’ market visits

Tickets include all materials, and no prior experience is needed—just bring your curiosity! This is a great class for anyone interested in slow fashion, eco-friendly textiles, natural dyeing, and sustainable creativity.

Come get your hands in the dye pot and experience the joy of working with one of nature’s most stunning natural colors.

Please feel free to bring in food & drinks of all kinds - all ages are also welcome! Park for free in our lot, or bike or walk to us along the LA River Trail.
